GALLERY - Nancy Farmer

Nancy is largely self-taught as a painter. Having completed a degree in jewellery design at Glasgow school of Art, and an MA in Metalwork conservation at the V&A Museum, she turned to painting in around 1999. In 2002 she moved to Somerset and took up her artwork as a full-time career. Blending fantasy and reality, Nancy draws on mythology and fairytales, a close observation of people and everyday life, and her own imagination and mischievous sense of humour, to create unique visions full of surprises and familiar references. Using gouache, and sometimes pencil as a medium, she creates highly detailed artwork at once contemporary and engagingly traditional. She has exhibited her artwork in a number of solo shows and group exhibitions in the South of England, and sells work both locally and internationally. Her paintings have become sought after for their unique blend of fantasy, humour and the commonplace. She also illustrates for Murky Depths, a quarterly anthology that prides itself in its collection of stories that push the boundaries of science fiction, fantasy and horror. Her work may also be seen on her frequently updated website at www.nancyfarmer.net, and paintings, prints and cards may be found in several local galleries and shops. |
