Lesley Nicholls : About Me

Since my retirement I have been able to dedicate myself far more to what has always essentially been just a hobby.

Six years ago I joined the Pembrokeshire Association of Artists and I have benefited enormously from a number of one and two-day workshops, led by different professional artists and encompassing a very wide variety of approaches, techniques and media. Examples of my work can be viewed on my Website : www.westsixmedia.demon.co.uk

I paint almost anything which captures my imagination. Over the years I have enjoyed producing watercolour portraits of people's pets. These have mainly been of dogs, but there are a few cats and horses, as well as the odd chicken!

Acrylic is currently my favourite medium and I am also embarking on oils. I really love the challenge of
painting portraits of people. It is good to have a model, but I generally work from high quality digital photographs.

I am more than happy to discuss commissions.

Anne Farmer: About Me

I adore the possibilities of watercolour and this has become the medium I work in almost exclusively.
Every now and then I even feel I've successfully met some of the challenges of this fascinating but tricky medium!
You need 'A Plan' for a watercolour painting (or a good drawing) but you have to recognise the moment when it's worth taking a risk to 'Go with the Flow'! Oil pastels and ink seem to add a required touch sometimes.

My paintings are broadly representational, based on the world outside and sometimes indoors too.
I just paint what I like - the countryside, sometimes in large sweeps, sometimes in detail; boats and water; people doing things; flowers - a bit of a scattergun approach.

So I am still waiting to discover 'my' subject - but I've got a feeling I shall carry on finding too many things too interesting to narrow down the choice much. The pictures are based on sketches, memories and photographs: a digital camera and a laptop means you can spend time thinking about your next painting even if you can't get on with the job!

I provide black and white drawings for a couple of local magazines and in the past I wrote and illustrated a monthly column called 'Prunings' for the South West Vineyards Association, winning the Gillian Pearkes Memorial Trophy for these contributions. Last Christmas I produced 'Bonny Beagle' dedicated to my grandchildren, and other children (and adults, so they say) have enjoyed the stories and pictures. I have a couple of other ideas I'm mulling over.

I am always happy to consider commissions, and have undertaken several paintings of various buildings.
